Cars: January 2008 Archives

Couldn't find the original article anywhere but I swear I read it a week ago and it said Playboys Car Of The Year 2008 is the Audi R8. God knows how playboy came to the conclusion that its the car of 2008 when its only just began but we'll let them off because of hot sexy girls and expensive fast sports cars go together perfectly. Not 100% sure why the Audi R8 as the Playboy car of the year though as it still looks a bit weird, I mean I know its nice but there is still something wrong with the shape of the R8 that stops it being gorgeous.

Ok I admit it I can resist no longer and just have to post some pictures of the seriously gorgeous Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione is not only beautiful to look at but one very rare car with production being limited to just 500. The Italian supercar is powered by a V8 engine producing around 444bhp which will propel the 8C Competizione from 0 to 60 in about 4.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 181. It will cost £111.000 here in the UK and ok so some German cars can hit these speeds at a fraction of the cost they can't do it in this much style.

General Motors is set to make its most powerful and fastest production car ever when the Corvette ZR1 hits showrooms. Initial reports say the ZR1 will produce a massive 611bhp from its V8 engine and should be able to smash the magic 200mph barrier. Now being an American car its not exactly pretty, has a plastic interior and body, but for those who want something to out drag a Ferrari, Porsche or Aston Martin but don't have the money here the perfect answer.

British car makers Aston Martin have unveiled there new race car the Vantage GT2 which is loosely based on the stunning V8 Vantage. Unfortunately its not a road going model and is purely for the race track and prices for the Vantage GT2 haven't been announced yet I'd imagine its bloody expensive. The boring stuff is that it will run on normal race fuel or E95 ethanol making the Aston Martin Vantage GT2 apparently greener! They shouldn't have bothered as we could do with the UK warming up a good few degrees. The good stuff is like all other Aston's its going to be a seriously good looking car although I do prefer the road going Vantage to the artists picture as the spoiler just looks wrong, yet unlike the idiots cruising in there Nova's it actually needs the rear wing for grip.
