Football: March 2008 Archives

The first of todays big Premiership football games has been played with Manchester United beating arch rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford 3 - 0. Man U scored after 34 minutes as Wes Brown's header met Wayne Rooneys cross. Then it all went downhill for Liverpool as just before half time Liverpool had Javier Mascherano sent off after a second yellow card for dissent. Strangely Javier Mascherano's red card was given when they had won a free kick, idiot should have just got on with the game of football!

Unbelievable I know but Kevin Keegan's Newcastle Unite managed to win a English Premiership football game! It was their first in 14 games and first in 10 since Kevin Keegan too charge of Newcastle since returning. Newcastle ended up beating Fulham 2 - 0 with goals from both Michael Owen and Mark Viduka. Hopefully this'll do Owen's confidence a world of good especially after being called up by England for their friendly against France.

Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe has been tole he can't play against his former club Tottenham for tomorrows football games by the Premier League! The Premier League claim that no player that is loaned to another team may play against the team providing the loaned player. This is really a bit stupid as Portsmouth and Tottenham agreed to a loan as the transfer window was closing then the deal was made permanent afterwards. Portsmouth are obviously not happy and apparently Tottenham were expecting there former striker to be playing against them.

How bloody annoying and yes I know its old news now, but its still winding me up that UEFA have decided to give Sky the television broadcasting rights to the majority of the Champions League football games from next season! Sky have reportedly paid around £240 million in the TV deal! There is some light at the in all this though as ITV or the BBC could potentially obtain the rights to first choice games and joint TV rights to the Champions League final. We will have to see though I just hope they don't take all Champions League football games away from terrestrial television as apart from the FA Cup we don't get to watch much football on TV anymore.
